Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has made a name for herself in the Hindi film industry with her versatile performances. Over the years, she has become an inspiration for working women as she broke multiple stereotypes from not getting married and single-handedly raising her daughters Renee and Alisah. Being one of the most sought-after actresses from the 90s, she started her journey when she became the first Indian to win the Miss Universe crown at the age of 18.

Despite bringing the country such a huge win, she was subjected to a lot of judgement due to her bold and outspoken personality. It had reached a point where her parents had to sit her down and explain to her how to conduct herself during interviews. Recalling the incident, during her chat with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast ‘Chapter 2,’ the 48-year-old actress revealed how society wasn’t as ‘accepting’ in the 90s. ALSO READ: WHAT! Quoted by the Free Press Journal, the Taali actress shared, “Everything was 'hawww' to the extent that Maa and Baba had to sit me down and say, ‘There is a lot riding on your shoulders and curb a little bit of what you’re saying. Why use the word ‘sex’ in an interview at 18? Further added, Sen revealed that when she did sit down for an interview with De, she deliberately used the word ‘sex,’ just to be a rebel against the clutches of societal norms and expectations set for women. The actress reminisced how she had to fight really hard as there were parents who thought she was a ‘bad influence’ on their children because of her outspoken personality. 


On the work front, Sushmita Sen was last seen in Ram Madhavani’s web series Aarya season 3 Antim Vaar. The show received positive responses from the audience as well as the critics. Currently streaming in Disney+ Hotstar, the show released on February 9, 2024. The actress is yet to officially announce her upcoming project.
